Vikas Sharma: Building Hospitality That Endures Beyond Walls and Time
In hospitality, true leadership is not measured by how grand a space looks on opening day—but by how consistently it makes people feel seen, valued, and at home. Few leaders in the Indian hospitality landscape embody this truth as deeply as Vikas Sharma, a veteran hospitality professional whose three-decade journey reflects discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to service excellence.
Rooted in the values of a fifth-generation Defence family, Sharma’s leadership philosophy has been shaped by structure, responsibility, and respect for people—principles that have guided him through some of the most iconic hotel brands, complex pre-openings, and transformational growth stories in Indian hospitality. Today, he continues to contribute to the industry as a senior hospitality leader and advisor, focused on strengthening service cultures, operational excellence, and people-first leadership.
The Making of a Hospitality Leader
Vikas Sharma’s professional journey began in 1993 at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai, where he joined as a Hotel Operations Management Trainee. Those formative years instilled in him the fundamentals that would later define his leadership style—attention to detail, operational rigor, and uncompromising service standards.
“Taj taught me that luxury is not about excess—it is about precision, consistency, and respect for the guest,” Sharma reflects.
A defining early milestone came with the pre-opening of India’s first Radisson Hotel in New Delhi. The complexity and scale of that project ignited a lifelong passion for building hospitality institutions from the ground up—strengthening his ability to lead large teams, integrate global brand standards, and deliver excellence under pressure.
Over the years, Sharma’s career has spanned leadership roles across IHCL, InterContinental, Hilton, Hard Rock Hotels, Radisson, DLF, Asia Resorts, and other prominent hospitality organizations—each chapter deepening his understanding of luxury, scale, and sustainable growth.
Leadership Proven Through Milestones
Across his career, Sharma has consistently demonstrated the ability to translate vision into operational success. He has led multiple high-profile pre-openings and brand launches, including:
- Hilton Bangalore Embassy GolfLinks
- Hard Rock Hotel Goa
- Radisson Blu Dharamshala
One of his most notable achievements came at Hilton Bangalore Embassy GolfLinks, where the property achieved operational profitability within just three months of opening—a rare accomplishment in the hospitality industry.
He has also driven properties to strong market leadership positions, including achieving an RGI of 120% at Aloft Whitefield, underscoring his ability to balance guest satisfaction with robust commercial performance.
At Moksha Himalaya Spa Resort, Sharma oversaw complex luxury operations, including Asia’s largest spa, successfully managing experiential excellence in a challenging high-altitude environment.
Redefining Luxury Through Intentional Leadership
At the core of Vikas Sharma’s philosophy lies a clear belief: true luxury is defined not by opulence, but by trust, personalization, and emotional connection.
For Sharma, hospitality is a relationship-driven industry. Leadership, he believes, must be visible, empathetic, and grounded in credibility. Titles matter far less than consistency of action, clarity of purpose, and the ability to inspire teams to deliver excellence naturally.
“My vision has always been to build future-ready hospitality ecosystems where service is intuitive, leadership is human, and excellence is intentional,” he shares.
Navigating Complexity with Resilience
Hospitality is an industry defined by constant change and human interaction. From leading intricate pre-openings to steering teams through periods of disruption—including the COVID-19 pandemic—Sharma has learned that resilience is built through transparent communication, decisive leadership, and compassion.
During times of uncertainty, his focus has remained firmly on people—maintaining team morale, operational continuity, and guest trust. This people-first mindset has enabled him to lead through complexity without compromising values or performance.
Recognition Earned Through Impact
Sharma’s contributions to the hospitality industry have been widely recognized, including:
- India’s Best – Vice President Operations, Trinity World (2018)

- Alumnus, Taj Management Development Programme, IIM Bangalore
In addition to formal accolades, Sharma’s professional journey is strongly reflected in the exceptional recommendations and endorsements he has earned from peers, teams, and industry leaders—testament to his credibility, mentorship, and people-centric leadership.
Leadership Beyond the Boardroom
Beyond operational success, Sharma views leadership as a responsibility to shape the future of hospitality. He actively mentors emerging professionals, advocates sustainable and ethical growth, and champions workplace cultures where people feel respected and empowered.
“Leadership is not about authority—it is about responsibility,” he emphasizes. “When you take care of your people, they take care of the guest.”
His advice to aspiring hospitality professionals is grounded and timeless: master the fundamentals, build credibility through action, and lead with integrity and empathy.
A Legacy in Progress
With over three decades of experience, Vikas Sharma represents a rare balance of discipline and warmth, strategy and service, tradition and innovation. His journey illustrates that enduring leadership in hospitality is built quietly—through consistency, credibility, and care for people.
In an industry defined by moments, Vikas Sharma continues to build a legacy designed to last.
